Getting Access to CAA V5 Tools

Using TCK commands for setting up the environment to access CAA V5 tools

Quick Reference

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to explain how to set up your environment to gain access to CAA V5 Tools

Downloading a V5 Development Toolkit CD-ROM

Before downloading the CD-ROM the installation program asks for the directory where data will be copied. In the rest of this paper, this directory will be referenced as InstallRootDirectory.

For each different CD-ROM, a label is generated to identify the level of tools to be installed. This label is known as a Tool Configuration Key or TCK.
Once the installation is completed, this TCK can be used to specified the level of tools to be used.

The naming of the TCK is something like V5Rn_xxx where n is the release number and xxx is the Service Pack number.

Purpose and Location of the tck_init Profile

The tck_init profile is used to setup the working environment to have access to TCK commands. Once this profile has been executed, TCK commands can be launched without knowing their exact location.

Depending on the operating system where the CD-ROM has been downloaded, the tck_init profile full path is slightly different. It looks like:

Where OS is a directory the name of which depends on the operating system. Refer to [1] to get the list of the currently supported operating systems and their associated directory names.

List and Select TCKs

Among TCK commands, two of them are interesting for setting up an environment:

To be able to execute these commands, the tck_init profile must have been executed:

Platform Where Command line
Windows In a command prompt  tck_init.bat
UNIX In a shell window  . tck_init (*)

(*) Note that the profile must be executed using '.'

The way to set up the current environment is the same whatever the current platform is. Given a TCK the command to execute is:

tck_profile TCK

Accessing Tools from V5 Visual Builder Toolkit (Windows)

When working in Developer Studio and if the V5 Visual Builder Toolkit has been installed, the available TCKs can be selected when opening a "V5 Workspace". In this case, there is no need neither to know where the tck_init file is located nor to execute the tck_profile command. Please refer to the appropriate documentation to learn more about using V5 tools from Developer Studio.

In Short

The first command to run is tck_init, then run tck_profile by specifying the TCK referencing the tools to be used.
